No. David Crosby, maybe

Or maybe Charles Manson. The Intarwebs may have killed off a lot of journalism traditions (classified advertising and copydesk jobs, to name two), but the deity-on-foodstuffs tradition is alive and well -- right, Royal Oak Patch?

After severe storms, which DTE Energy called one of the 10th worst in its 111-year history, rumbled across Wayne County Friday and abruptly shut down the St. Andre Bessette Church Festival, there was something especially comforting about this food when the celebration resumed on Saturday.

Festival chairman Robert Heller told WXYZ, Channel 7 said a parishioner excitedly told him that Jesus must prefer Polish food to Mexican food, then presented a pierogi – a Polish dumpling – as evidence.

“I was shocked,” said Heller, who was making tacos at the time. “I looked at it, and you can definitely see the face of Jesus.”

I don't know. I'm kind of getting a younger David Crosby -- see in the closeup how he's kind of resting his chin on his hand there?

Could matters get worse, editing-wise? Imagine how things look at the originating station:

ECORSE, Mich. (WXYZ) - The St. Andre Bessette Church Festival is going on right now, but during the festival Saturday, Chairman Robert Hellar says someone brought him a piergoi with "the face of Jesus" on it.

"I was in the taco booth making taco's, and they came up to me and said 'Jesus love polish food more than Mexican food' and I asked why," Heller said.

That's when he saw the pierogi.

"I was shocked. I looked at it, and you can definitely see the face of Jesus," Heller said.

Parishioner's at the church took this as a good sign after Friday's storms. They were happy to see the face after the festival was cut short after only two hours.

Right now, the church plans to keep the piergoi in a freezer bag and in the freezer, they don't know what they're going to do with it next.

One can hope, at least, that Patch didn't just toss a coin on the spellings. From there, we could work up to the idea that it really isn't a story when people see the divine in lunch.

Why is it that only deities and angels appear on crusty foodstuffs and rusting industrial tanks? That image looks more like Manson, but maybe that's because I know what he looks (or looked) like. Only way to know whose image it is for sure would be to eat it. If you get indigestion....
